New York City's East Village turned into a runway for roughly 500 dogs in costume on Saturday, and the lineup was gloriously unhinged.
The 36th annual Tompkins Square Halloween Dog Parade marched from East 13th Street and Avenue B down to Tompkins Square Park, with spectators perched on lampposts, CitiBike seats and fire escapes to watch. Hyperallergic reported that the entries included "Pup Leo" in a Popemobile, a corgi dressed as Gary the snail beside an owner in a SpongeBob outfit, Santa Paws, Vincent van Doge, a Yayoi Kusama pumpkin, a cyclosporiasis parasite, a Bad Bunny-themed float and a pack of Pomeranians in Knicks gear.
Fashion Times reported more pop-culture looks, including a dog as the floating house from Up with its owner as Carl, plus Yoda, characters from One Piece and Project Hail Mary, and huskies dressed as characters from It. Organizers also brought 250 adoptable shelter dogs to the parade, and a Shih Tzu dressed as Knicks captain Jalen Brunson took the top costume prize.
