Cash App had two security incidents. A former employee downloaded user data in December 2021. A separate breach followed in 2023. A class action lawsuit — Salinas v. Block, Inc. — went forward. Block Inc. agreed to a $15 million settlement.
If you filed a claim before the November 2024 deadline, your money is on its way right now.
Payments officially began distributing on October 7, 2026. They're going out throughout this month via whatever payment method you selected when you filed — Venmo, Zelle, virtual prepaid email card, or physical paper check. If you filed and haven't seen anything yet, that doesn't mean you won't. Paper checks take longer. Some payment processors are slower than others.
Here's exactly what to check.
What the Settlement Covers
The $15 million settlement covers Cash App users who were affected by either of two security incidents: the December 2021 internal data breach, in which a former employee downloaded user data including brokerage account information, and the 2023 breach.
Approved claimants can receive:
- Up to $2,500 for documented out-of-pocket losses directly linked to the breach
- Reimbursement for unauthorized transaction losses from a Cash App or Cash App Investing account
- $25 per hour, up to 3 hours of lost time spent dealing with the breach — meaning up to $75 for time spent on fraud monitoring, replacing cards, disputing charges, or other breach-related activity
The actual amount any individual receives depends on what they claimed and what was approved. Not everyone gets $2,500 — that's the ceiling for out-of-pocket expense claims. The lost time compensation is available to essentially everyone who filed.
Filing Is Closed. But Your Claim Isn't.

The deadline to file a new claim was November 18, 2024. That window is closed — no late claims are being accepted. If you didn't file before that deadline, you are not eligible to receive a payment from this settlement.
If you did file: your claim is in the distribution queue and your payment is coming if it was approved. The only action required now is checking your status and making sure your payment method is still valid.
How to Check Your Status Right Now
The official Cash App Security Settlement portal allows you to look up your claim using the claim ID you received when you filed. Log in, enter your ID, and check the current status of your distribution.
If your payment is coming via Venmo or Zelle, it will arrive directly to the account linked when you filed — make sure that account is still active and accessible. If you selected a virtual prepaid email card, check the email address you used when filing, including your spam folder. Paper checks are mailed to the address on file from your original claim submission.
If your address has changed since you filed in 2024, contact the settlement administrator immediately — a check mailed to an old address will not be forwarded, and unclaimed checks can expire. The administrator information is available at cashappsecuritysettlement.com.
What Happens If Your Payment Seems Wrong

If your payment amount is lower than you expected, it may reflect the total number of approved claims exceeding what the settlement fund can fully cover at face value — in that case, payouts are reduced proportionally across all claimants.
If your claim shows as rejected, you were notified during the claims review process and had the opportunity to appeal. If you believe your claim was wrongly rejected, the settlement portal has the contact information for the administrator.
Block Inc. — Cash App's parent company — did not admit wrongdoing as part of the settlement. The $15 million was agreed to resolve the litigation and compensate affected users.
