An Australian reporter went from covering the flood to rescuing someone from it, and a camera crew filmed all of it.
ABC reporter Will Murray was covering heavy flooding on Buchanan Road in Morayfield, north of Brisbane, on Oct. 22 when he watched a driver steer a four-wheel drive into the water, where it stalled and began floating downstream. Murray called emergency services, then swam out with bystander Daniel Hainey when the car began sinking, and the pair forced open a rear door and pulled the man out just before the vehicle went under.
Camera operator Liz Pickering filmed the rescue. The driver told Murray he hadn't seen the warning signs or realized how deep the water was, and nearly 7 inches of rain had fallen in the area that day. Murray urged people not to drive into floodwaters.
