A real-life Winnie-the-Pooh walked into a California library this month, and it knew exactly where the honey was.
Security video from the Mammoth Lakes branch of the Mono County Free Libraries shows a black bear wandering in around 6:10 a.m., hours before the 10 a.m. opening, and heading straight for the staff snack supply. The Guardian reported it helped itself to peanut butter, peach cups, cookies and a jar of honey, then toured the library, browsed the new releases and inspected the reference desk before letting itself out.
No shelves were toppled and no books were harmed, but library staff noted the honey jar has not been returned, and library director Josef Bopp reminded patrons that snacks are not part of the circulating collection. Officials also reminded residents not to approach or feed wild bears.
